In a nutshell

Margot List is a versatile musician living in Switzerland (SG). She is a singer songwriter, expressing profound emotions through catchy melodies and heartfelt lyrics. Her songs take you on a journey of life's struggles and wonders. She plays live gigs both solo and as one half of acoustic music duo "Margot & Myri" with a mix of cover songs and originals.

Early life, leaving music behind

Born in London, Margot started learning classical guitar at the age of 7. Interestingly nobody in the family was musical. She was awarded music scholarships to day school and Saturday school at Guildhall School of Music and Drama. She stopped having music lessons at age 16 and gave up any dream of becoming a musician as she knew she needed to leave home and become financially independent. She ended up training as an actuary and worked very long hours in the insurance industry with no time for music for many years. 

Moving to a new city, lockdown and discovering songwriting

Margot’s move to Munich came when she was deeply frustrated with her situation in London. She took a job offer, despite not knowing anybody in the city. In her first year, Margot met new people, discovered new places and started building a new life from scratch. The pandemic changed everything. She found herself alone with nobody for support and soon struggled with depression. It was in this time and after starting therapy that Margot discovered she could write songs. Songwriting gave her an emotional outlet. Her biggest wish is that people can find meaning and comfort in her music and lyrics. 

Upcoming releases

Margot's latest release Path To Happiness came out in 2025. More songs are on the horizon thereafter.

Live music

Margot is an events musician with many live performances under her belt. She played regular evening gigs at Botanista Café Club, multiple corporate events (summer and Christmas parties), countless street music performances and open stages internationally. She recently played her first wedding together with Myri and realised that this is the space that feels most joyful in the musical world. A day full of emotions, creating magical memories in the most beautiful locations for wonderful people all while celebrating love. It doesn't really get much better than that. 

Social projects

Margot volunteered for 3 years at Refugio’s music centre for refugees in Munich. She taught guitar, ukulele, singing and songwriting. Music helped her through very difficult times in her life and she hopes she can help young people who have been through trauma to build a musical safe space for themselves. 

She recently quit the insurance industry and is retraining in social work with her most recent musical project being playing traditional German songs for people with dementia to sing along with her.
